Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Germany failed to make it past the group stage in the previous two tournaments and are now looking to correct their mistakes.

— What motivates you to correct the mistakes made in 2018 and 2022?
“Obviously, we want to fix everything.” The memories are no longer so disturbing, but we understand that the feeling of unity with the fans may not be at its best now. They have lost a little faith in us and we are trying to regain their trust. This is perhaps my main personal motivation, and this applies to the whole team.

We can and should always learn from our mistakes, but dwelling on them now will not help us. We just want to look forward and take advantage of this opportunity. We are confident that we have a strong team,” the official FIFA website quotes Goretzky as saying.

The German national team will compete at the 2026 World Cup in Group E along with the national teams of Curacao, Cote d'Ivoire and Ecuador.
