Brian Barry-Murphy marks one year as Cardiff City manager today, June 16, just over a month after leading the Bluebirds back to the Championship. The Irishman signed a three-year contract with the club last summer and led Cardiff to automatic promotion from League One in his debut season in Wales. The team won 27 of their 46 league matches last season for a winning percentage of 58.7%. Cardiff scored 91 points at an impressive 1.98 points per game. The team also scored a record 90 goals in the third division, which amounted to 1.96 goals per match. Cardiff also enjoyed a successful run to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, beating Swindon Town and Cheltenham Town at home, followed by two away wins against Burnley and Urex. That streak was only broken by Premier League side Chelsea beating the Bluebirds 3-1 in Wales in December. However, including all cup competitions, Barry-Murphy has a win rate of 58.9% in his 56 official matches as head coach to date. The 47-year-old was twice named League One manager of the month in his debut season in south Wales. Now, after successfully returning the club to the Second Division at his first attempt, Barry-Murphy is aiming to continue his remarkable career with Cardiff in the 2026-27 season.
